Injury Recovery and Mobility

For members with limited mobility or who are recovering from injury, we offer several classes that may be suitable to help you meet your fitness goals in a safe, low-impact environment. We have various classes to guide you through gentle stretches and poses designed to increase flexibility, including a variety of Yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi classes. We advise talking to a member of our health & fitness coaches if you are effected by your mobility or you’re recovering from an injury*.

*At Wickwoods, your health and safety are our top priority. While our classes can support injury recovery and limited mobility, you must take medical advice before starting any new exercise regime or program. The instructors at Wickwoods are not licensed medical professionals, so we cannot provide recommendations regarding your specific injury rehabilitation or mobility restrictions. Your doctor or physical therapist can help determine if you have any limitations or precautions related to exercise. Our personal trainers can work with you within the guidelines provided by your medical team. The health and wellbeing of our members are our top concern, so we always encourage speaking to a doctor before participating in classes after an injury or with limited mobility.

Exercise Classes for Seniors

We offer classes such as Restorative Pilates, Yoga & Meditation and Stretch & Mobility which are great for recent retirees and seniors looking to establish a regular exercise regime. These classes focus on building strength, flexibility and balance at an appropriate and accessible pace.

Our instructors can provide individual guidance to support members' health and fitness goals, while group exercise classes provide an enjoyable social component alongside physical benefits for older adults.

Common Questions

  • Is there personalised assistance available from fitness trainers?

At Wickwoods, we would happily provide appropriate goal-setting advice for retirees' age and fitness levels. Our personal trainers are highly qualified and experienced to provide individual guidance, with personalised fitness training plans for those who are retired or those returning to exercise after an injury. Whatever your health goals, from losing weight to improving your strength, our personal trainers can work closely with you to create a customised plan for your goals.

  • Are there options for low-impact exercises to accommodate my fitness level?

Low-impact workouts are ideal for building cardiovascular health and muscle strength without putting too much pressure on your body. These are gentle exercises and low-impact fitness routines for seniors with various abilities, involving low level resistant training that provides a full body workout to improve your strength and fitness. As part of our extensive range of exercise classes, we offer gentle exercise classes for seniors looking to improve their fitness in a low-impact way.

  • Can I receive guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle during retirement?

If you need tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle during retirement, our nutritional coach can provide you with healthy lifestyle guidance and personalised coaching tailored to your goals. Our experienced coach can provide customised nutrition advice for retirees to help you feel your best.

  • Are there social activities or group events for retirees?

We offer a wide variety of group activities and events for retired gym members looking to stay active and connected. One of our most popular offerings is social tennis classes which offers a great way to enjoy friendly games of tennis and meet other active seniors.

In addition to tennis, we host various group exercise classes such as restorative Pilates classes focused on building strength, flexibility and balance through gentle, low-impact movements, and tai chi and yoga classes which prioritise relaxation and injury prevention. Our passionate instructors ensure classes are safe, effective and conducted in a welcoming, social environment. We want to help retirees maintain active lifestyles while forming meaningful connections.

  • Is there a trial or introductory period available to test the facilities and services?

We're on hand to help you make the most of your membership and the facilities available at the club. We would be happy to take you on a tour of the grounds so you can see the gym's facilities and services in person, and provide you with an information pack so you can see everything you'll have access to as a club member.
